The Elder Scrolls Online for PC supports XInput controllers, which includes the Xbox 360 and Xbox One controllers. If you are not using an XInput controller, it may not be compatible with ESO.

To activate your controller on PC/Mac, perform the following steps after you have logged into one of your characters. You cannot use a controller before logging into a character.

  1. Navigate to Settings.
  2. Select Gameplay.
  3. Next to GamepadMode, select On in the dropdown menu.
    • To revert back to your PC UI, turn the Gamepad Mode option to Off.

  5. If the controller is working properly, select OK to return to the Game Controllers menu.
  6. Click Advanced..
  7. In Advanced Settings you will see a drop down menu for Preferred device. Make sure to select the controller you would like to use and select OK.

Each antivirus program is different, and we recommend you view your antivirus developer's website for full instructions on how to add exceptions.

The application files that may require exceptions are:

  • ESO.exe: C:Program Files (x86)ZenimaxOnlineThe Elder Scrolls Onlinegameclienteso.exe (by default)

Some antivirus programs require entire folders to be selected instead of a single file. When this is the case, the file paths below are what players should use. If required by the antivirus program, include all subfolders since every file is critical to run the game.
